TAP AUDIT Group NSW
24 November 2016@ 11:00 am - 5:00 pm
This is a Group of Partners and Managers from the Audit Divisions of 15 small to medium firms. We meet twice a year to discuss Practice Management and Marketing issues as well as technical matters relevant to the audit divisions of firms. There is a structured Agenda and meetings are held in the Sydney CBD. Some regional firms participate.
The Group works regularly with Thea Foster to share experiences and support each other. Normally Justin Reid from GAAP Consulting attends to assist members. Also, Liz Stamford from CAANZ attends to discuss audit issues with members.
Member firms benefit in many ways
- Confidence – discovering that firm methods and results align with those of other successful audit practitioners
- Professional development – exposure to a range of highly-powered presenters, who are regularly featured at meetings. The hours constitute applicable CPD hours.
- Voice – a dynamic, as a close-knit professional association the Group functions as a lobby, with genuine power to impact the decision-makers within the industry.
- Network – a responsive, well-connected network has massive value.
- Focus on Practice Management – often training and meetings focus on technical matters, this Group provides discussions on the day to day management of the Audit division of a firm, including staffing and pricing.
- This is one of the cheapest and most effective forms of practice management and marketing training.
Thea Foster acts as facilitator of the Group, she prepares the Agendas, collates firm meeting documents, arranges special guest speakers, Chairs the meetings and ensures follow up on Taking Action items from the meeting discussions.
Like most practice consultants, Thea is also a chartered accountant. She first worked in large firms, then left and set up her own small firm. After time, Thea admitted a partner, bought him back out, then merged her firm. At that point Thea was working on the audits of two small listed entities, hence the merger. Later Thea sold out of the merged firm. She knows a lot about audit services in small firms and equity changes in accounting firms.
Given she grew up on the land, Thea has a particular interest in supporting regional based firms. Thea has been called “the accountants’ accountant”, a fitting description.
